Eduardo A. Gamarra

Eduardo A. Gamarra is a tenured full professor of political science in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Florida International University (FIU). He has been at FIU since 1986 and served as director of the Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) from 1994 to 2007. In 2016, he became the founding director of the Latino Public Opinion Forum at FIU’s Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs.

An expert on Latin American and Caribbean affairs, Dr. Gamarra has written, co-written, or edited twelve books and nearly one hundred scholarly articles on topics including democratization, security, political parties, elections, and public opinion, among others.

He has served as a consultant to several heads of state and major international organizations, including the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the United Nations Development Program, and various U.S. government agencies. His advisory work has focused on security sector reform, campaign strategy, and public policy across the Americas.

Dr. Gamarra is also the founder of Integrated Communications and Research (ICR), a consulting firm specializing in market research and public opinion polling throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. His recent research includes studies on the Latino vote in the United States.

A frequent commentator on global media outlets such as CNN, BBC, Univision, and The New York Times, Dr. Gamarra is widely recognized as a leading voice on Latin American politics. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Pittsburgh.
