Mauricio A. Salem is a professional whose experience comes from both the private and public government sectors, becoming part of the ministerial cabinet of the government of Ecuador between 2021 and 2023, representing public banking.

His experience began in 1997 as manager of the Mayor Development Bank of Ecuador (National Financial Corporation) in charge of the Regional Credit Portfolio and was ratified by three consecutive governments until 2002. In May 2011, he was called by the General Shareholders’ Meeting of a private bank in Ecuador to be its Regional Manager.

He was a candidate for the first National Congressman in October 2020. In October of the following year (2021), he was appointed General Manager and then President of BANECUADOR. This bank supports small farmers, producers, and entrepreneurs, achieving a historic milestone of creating a subsidized credit line of 1% interest for 30 years for micro-entrepreneurs, achieving a credit portfolio that exceeded 1.3 billion in just 26 months, reaching more than 300,000 Ecuadorian families. Never in history has there been such a cheap and long-term loan. He was also President of the Board of Directors of Banco del Pacífico in the year 2022, the second largest bank in Ecuador of a private nature but owned by the Ecuadorian state.

During his student life, he was President of the Student Association of the Faculties of Economics, Administration, Public Accounting, and International Business Management with voice and vote in the University Council.

He is currently a consultant and communicator, integrating the panel of one of the country’s main radio stations and digital channels (Radio i-99). In that field, he has also been part of the editorial board of the Ekos Economía y Negocios Magazine and of the Magazine of the Chamber of Industries of Guayaquil, where he was also one of the members of the board of directors and the executive committee of said business association (2011-2019).

He has a Post Graduate Degree in Banking and Finance and a Master’s Degree in Management Administration from one of the main Universities in Florida.
